Gary Truesdail asked:
>Why are you not allowed to play your main instrument?

It is because of the lack of bass instruments in my band. I know, I should
do it, but it isn't what I want, and there are other people who would love
to play it.

We really don't have a jazz band this year because all of our trombone
players either quit or graduated. We also lack a tenor and an alto sax, a
guitar, a piano, and a trumpet. What we are doing now is a sort of
jazz/percussion ensemble where my band director is arranging music for an
alto and a tenor sax, some trumpets (have no idea how many), a bass guitar
and mallet percussion. There is no bari sax. He may even throw in clarinet
or whatever some for me, but for the one he is doing right now, "nutville",
I am going to play 4 mallet marimba! I just love the marimba. The first
thing I said was "OH! CAN I PLAY MARIMBA!!!"

I don't really think there is the need to make me play bari sax. I think we
can get by with what we have. We have in the past! The reason I am playing
bari sax is that I have good air support. I started jazz band last year on
alto, but decided I wanted to play tenor. That didn't work out well because
the tenor I had to play was really messed up. Then I ended up on Bari and
fell in love. This is a different story in marching band though. I can't
reach the keys at the bottom and I am weighed down because I am small and
short.
