Rebecca,

You've already mentioned that the other
clarinet players aren't very good. Being
able to play bari will help a little by
putting some distance between you and
them :-).

Take the bari as a challenge and get as
good on it as you can. In the meantime,
practice very hard at home on the
clarinet. There's no reason why you
can't make the best of the situation,
coming out way ahead of where you might
have been otherwise.

Richard Bush,
who started his musical life on clarinet
in the fourth grade but now also plays
bass clarinet, contra bass clarinet,
flute, alto flute, all the saxophones
including the bass sax and bassoon. BTW,
my favorite instruments are the
clarinet, the bari sax and bassoon.
Having and being able to play all the
low reeds gets me lots of pit gigs!
