Bartok Contrasts

Originally written for A clarinet in the first two movements and a little
interlude for A in the third movement which is in Bb except for the little
interlude mentioned.

Boosey and Hawkes put out a version entirely of Bb clarinet. The little
interlude in the last movement has some adjustments to compensate for not
having the low note of the A clarinet.

If someone comes out playing it on one clarinet, most likely it's the Bb
version.

There was a case like that with the Mozart concerto. A reviewer in 1802
remarked that the original was for a clarinet going to low C. But since the
there was a scarcity of such instruments, the publisher decided to arrange
it for an ordinary A clarinet.
