Rebecca,
Please don't give up on this list. What hasn't been clearly stated
yet, is that people love to talk, and the internet has become a tool for
people to talk their hearts out. You have been given an honor. You asked a
little question (a good one, too. I went home and noticed that my B45 gold
was wearing off and I'm going to engrave it, so that when I find it in a box
in 20 years, I'll know what it is.), and then you told a story about high
school that caught the imagination of some people here on the list. You
started a 'thread'!! You made me smile to picture a row of young
clarinetists with purple mouthpieces. Once a thread starts, it's not yours
anymore; just sit back and read. Get involved if you like. They go amazing
places sometimes.
It's interesting when you mix so many types of people together. We've
got very experienced 'purist' professionals, and beginning kids, and everyone
else in between. We can't expect that our conversations will always go
smoothly. But we all enjoy making music, and that is a good thing to share.

Wayne Thompson

PS It is entirely appropriate to not read every word you find here. There's
so much; skim, skim, skim.
