I missed the original question, but will react to Roger's post.

I've used PhotoScore (Lite and Pro), SmartScore (and MidiScan, it's
predecessor) and SharpEye. SharpEye has been for me absolutely the most
accurate and reliable of the lot. It will work with Finale (Windows) if you
also buy a related "plug-in" called Dolet MusicXML, which is a layout
language that is distributed as a package with SharpEye. Finale will import
SharpEye files output in Dolet (.xml) format. SharpEye also, however, can
output NIFF files, which can be read by Sibelius.

SmartScore will write .fin files that can be imported into Finale and also
NIFF files, which Sibelius can read. I find it less accurate than SharpEye,
and although it includes text and expression markings in what it recognizes,
many of them don't make it into Finale when you import the result.
PhotoScore, so far as I know, only talks to Sibelius. You can save the
output as a MIDI file (which could be read into Finale), but then you lose
all layout information as well as expression and text markings.

This is much more information than Roger suggested was wanted, and I don't
know what question I'm actually answering. But if I've answered a question
that wasn't asked, maybe someone will find the information useful anyway.
