I have used PhotoScore and Sibelius for a few years and the newest
version of PhotoScore does a remarkable job. It still takes some time
to clean up the score in PhotoScore, transfer it to Sibelius and then
add dynamics, slurs, etc. You should plan a total of about 10-20
minutes per page depending on the complexity of the music and added
marks.

It does save tremendous time over imputing the music the standard
ways.

Gary Truesdail wrote, "If only some brilliant programmer would write
and
OCR program for printed music."

Jeremy Yager responded, "I'm not certain of this, but doesn't the new
version of Finale (yes, $$$) offer this ability?"

Mark Charette answered, "Finale includes SmartScore, the program that
does
the work. However, it is far from being 100% accurate."

William Wright, asked further, "....hmmmm, do the staff lines move, or
do
the notes? Another deep metaphysical question."

Robert Moody offers, "I suggest that Finale does the job, but Sibelius
2
with PhotoScore does a much better job. And though not 100% still, it
DOES
interpret the dynamics and other articulation markins as well as
instrument
labeling so that the scanned products acts and responds like you typed
it
yourself. Cool stuff. And yes...big $$$."
