Flutter tonguing is a tongue trill done
by pressing the tongue on the roof of
the mouth behind the top teeth, keeping
it pressed and blowing at the same time.
It is similar to rolling "R's" in the
French and other languages. The effect
can be done on all wind instruments,
though I've known flute players who just
can't do it....too bad, because it is
occasionally called for, more so in
flute music than for clarinetists.
