Dear Kimber,
I think a great clarinet solo for this time of year is Gounod's
"Dance of the Marionettes", also known as "The Alfred Hitchcock Theme".
This piece appears in a RUBANK collection of easy clarinet solos.
However, although it is classified as "easy", I am having all of my
clarinet students who can play it, learn it now, because it does have a
few "pinky busters" and it is a neat tune for this time of year. Our
next master class is going to be a masquerade party, and I am informing
everybody to wear a mask with a hole large enough to fit their clarinet
through.
On yeare when I was playing in a neighborhood bar, I sequenced
together an orchestral arrangement of the tune, off of a CD I had
enttitled "Early Morning Marches". I don't know why they included this
tune on the CD, because I have always associated it with the evening.
Anyhow, the arrangement sounds great with clarinet and was a lot of fun
for everybody to stroll in front of the bandstand with their constumes.
If you want a copy of the CD accompaniment and my clarinet part, I will
send it to you for $10. ANNIE
