Marc (and Fernando)

The RC is NOT an R13 by ANY means. They are both produced by
Buffet, and that is where the similarities end.

The R13 is almost exclusively sold in the US, as the European
and South American players usually are not as interested in the
R13. The R13 was created in 1950 and the RC in 1974.

The RC is a larger bore instrument than the R13, and has a
different amount of taper in the reverse taper of the upper
joint, allowing less resistance than the R13. The RC bell has an
egg shaped interior for projection, while the R13 does not. The
RC has a more conical taper for the lower joint, while the R13
lower joint is poly cylindrical.

I have always disliked the R13, as I prefer the RC, as well as
English instruments, such as Howarth, with bigger bores. It's
best to try them both side by side to feel the difference, if
you can. Most people like one or the other, but not necessarily
both, since they do feel quite different. Most people playing
Buffet in the US play on R13s while most people OUTSIDE the US
who play Buffet DO NOT play on an R13.
