As far as professionals changing mouthpieces go, MANY
top playes change all the time. It depends on what
level of "equipment freak" they are of course.
Ricardo Morales, Franklin Cohen and Eddie Daniels come
to mind. Those aren't club players either! Those
players sound great on anything, but they change
mouthpieces for different reasons (type of music,
different tonal characteristics, neurotic behavior!)
It depends on the player. Some are satisfied with
their current setup, some always try and find that
better product. I am one of those. I will change
mouthpieces in a heartbeat if it plays better in tune,
smoother, etc. That is my take on the topic. Of
course David Naden will disagree, but then again, he
knows more about clarinet than the above mentioned
players. :)
