Subj: [kl] Yay! A clarinet solo in marching band!
Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 22:17:11 -0400

Speaking of tooting one's horn, I would like to say that my dreams have
come true, and there is a solo for clarinet in my marching band... and I
get to play it! It is the solo at the beginning of the wedding music from
"Fiddler on the Roof." My band director won't let me do the proper
"stylistic changes" to the solo yet for whatever reason, but it is exciting
nonetheless. Funny anecdote concerning said solo...
I am really nervous on my first performance of it, and I prepare to step up
onto the podium. I have rehearsed mounting this podium before during band
practise, but never before in my marching uniform. I manage to get both
legs onto the podium, and proceed to fall face first onto it. Spectators
find this to be so humourus that it is worthy of a vocal reaction. This
makes me laugh, and my fear of performance is gone... funny how things work
out...
sorry about this e/n post, and i also have a question. how would i go about
replying to certain posts on the list?
thanks
Russell
