$30,000 - $39,000 starting salaries have been mentioned.

I am now a retired music teacher. Started at less than $8,000 (1965)
retired at around $60,000 after 37 years.

I was at work from 7:30 A.M. and until 4:00 minimum.
Add in parades, concerts, football shows and planning, pep band,
district musical extravaganzas, parent club meetings, etc. for 181 days
per year plus 2 inservice training days.

Now go calculate the per hour earnings and how much each parent is
paying daily for their student to get a group lesson from you in your
class.

Now think about your overhead costs to being a music teacher.

Now think about how much training (college course work) you have to have
to be allowed to enter the classroom.

Now compare that to other professions.

Carpenters, painters, contractors, earth movers, auto repair mechanics,
dentists, computer repair, etc.

I bet you will find teachers get a lot less per hour than most others
and parents pay almost nothing for a daily group lesson.
