Subj: [kl] Care and feeding of a 25 year old Buffet

Hi everyone !

Short story, back in the 1970's my best friend and I were both playing
clarinet together in our high School Band. At the end of 9th grade he put
his clarinet in the closet never to play again. A few months back I told him
my daughters private clarinet teacher suggested it was time to upgrade to a
wood clarinet from her plastic Yamaha. My friend Gary thought his was wood
and offered her the use of the clarinet. He thought it was a Bundy. We
picked it up today and found out it is actually a Buffet. The joint below
the low C key has some wood missing , probably from being dropped but I do
not see any major cracks or other damage, cork seals are tight. My daughter
says it plays well and is otherwise undamaged.

What do we need to do to reintroduce this hibernating instrument to the
playing world ? Any web sites with care and feeding info for wood clarinets
? I assume even though it has luckily survived this long there are things
that need to be done with wood compared to plastic.

Thanks
Steve
