James, when I made a similar presentation to our local school board, and
a principal raised the issue of "Does music make kids smarter, or do
smart kids like music?"......

My reply was: "Does it matter?" If, as a teacher, you place more value
on children who are already smart, then do you want to turn them off by
removing a subject that they desire, thereby making your school less
relevant to them?'

Judging by audience reaction, this particular thought resonated.
