I fixed the USA Today link, but will probably go on a more comprehensive
search for the original study later.

Part of the thesis by Jeane Akin is reprinted at the bottom of this
page: http://www.childrensmusicworkshop.com/pullouts.html. I'm still
working on a link to the full thesis, but not having much luck at
present.

There is also more information available on the site:
http://pionet.net/~hub7/. I haven't read the information here, so
proceed at your own risk (this site was the original source of the Akin
thesis but that link is dead as Mark indicates).
