Robyn -

If the Weber Concerto #2 feels stale, get the amazing recording by Gervase de
Peyer. There's more in it than you could ever imagine. The versions by
Sabine Meyer and Jon Manasse are almost as good, and Antony Pay made an
excellent recording on a copy of a period clarinet. My performance notes are
at http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f@-----. My
notes on the Concertino at
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=14529&t=14450 also
discuss the Weber style.

The R13 thumb rest is a problem for neck strap users like you and me. The
elastic strap with the leather tab is made by BG, and as you say, it doesn't
fit well over the Buffet adjustable thumb rest. I can think of three
solutions, any of which a repair shop can do easily: (a) switch to an
old-style thumb rest; (b) solder a sax-type ring to the existing thumb rest;
(c) order an adjustable thumb rest with a ring already installed from the
Jupiter company, which makes inexpensive clarinets. If you have a ring put
on, you might try the Neotech sax neck strap, which has a very comfortable
wide, padded collar.

The Rabaud Solo de Concours has to be tossed off as if it were easy. It's
anything but. I think the best recording by far is the original one by
Auguste Perier, which is available on Clarinet Classics. See my notes at
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f@-----.

Best regards.
