Raymond--

First...SLOW DOWN. You are getting tooooo worked up, and that stress will
NOT help. Now, that having been said, I will address some, but not all of
your questions.

Re: #2--There are several editions of (I am assuming) Weber's Grand Duo
Concertante. IMHO, the best quality edition at an economical price is the
International Music Corporation (IMC) edition. However, the Lineau,
Breitkopf and Baerenreiter editions are all excellent if price is not an
issue. There are numerous recordings available, but the price you pay will
depend if it is full price, midline, or budget. Recordings by David Shifrin
(Delos), Sabine Meyer (EMI), Janet Hilton (Chandos or Chandos Collect), and
numerous others (I have over 10 recordings, and I am going blank) are all
excellent.

Re: #3 and 4--Please check the Klarinet Archives. These topics have been
discussed in the past, and I suggest that you see what has been posted.

Re: #5--Each player's set-up is more or less individual, and is certainly
subjective. The question you should ask yourself is what works for you. If
you find a setup that you like, that will go a long way in improving your
tone as referenced in #4. I personally like Greg Smith mouthpieces and use
Rovner ligatures. However, I have also played Borbeck mouthpieces that I
like. What works for you???

Re: #6--IMHO, do NOT use a crystal mouthpiece. I have never liked the sound
from players that use them, but that is my opinion. A good hard rubber
mouthpiece--custom made or from a company (Vandoren) produces a more
consistent sound.

Re: #7--check the liner notes of any CD, and you will find performance
notes. When I performed the Stravinsky on my Master's recital, I reviewed
the liner notes of at least 7-10 recordings. I found more tidbits from
those recordings than most other sources.

Re: #8--There is no comparison between standard reeds and synthetic reeds.
Synthetic reeds last longer, but do not produce the same sound.

Re: #9--How does your director want the part played? It does not matter
what how the recordings sound, because they were made by different groups,
under different conditions, and with different priorities. In addition, the
engineering of the recording may have altered the original "live" balance of
the piece.

Re: #10--The LeBlanc Opus is equivalent to the Buffet Prestige RC or
Prestige R-13 instruments. The Buffet R-13 is the basic professional line
instrument. How much do you want to pay for a quality instrument...that
will be a deciding factor. That having been said, what is your preference
(both are good instruments)?

Raymond, you ask a lot of questions that ask for opinions from which it
seems you will base your decisions. While input from other players may be
helpful, do not base your decisions solely on what other players say. You
need to do your own basic research and testing of instruments, etc, and make
up your mind. Trust your instincts. Do not be so REACTIVE...be PROACTIVE
in the decision making process.
