Rebecca, I didn't understand exactly what you believe that your
alternatives are.
But the two alternatives are so completely different --- committing your
youth to military service vs. obtaining a musical instrument --- that I
don't see how one should affect the other.
How to obtain a musical instrument is one issue, and what to do with
your life is _completely_ a different issue.
Both issues are important, and I am _NOT_ either discouraging or
encouraging military service.
What I am saying is: they are separate issues, and they should be
decided separately. Allowing one issue to affect the other seems to me
like a very bad move! How to obtain a clarinet is a relatively
temporary detail in your life. Whether or not to join the military is
a major life-shaping decision. Decide them separately.
