This will be sort of a reply to everyone who wrote about alto clarinet:

I have a Noblet 55 alto clarinet, which is my baby. Unfortunately, there are
not many oppertunities to play anything good on it, so mostly I'm playing
alto sax solos, music, ect...

I have played flight of the bumblebee. It was an arrangement for alto sax.
My all time favorites to play are the Handel sonatas. I played #3 at solo
and ensemble on alto clarinet and recieved superior. I do the usual alto
solo at s&e for humor, and trust me, they get it, and for myself, to prove
that the stereotype that all alto clarinetists suck wrong. I had the joy of
meeting another alto clarinet soloist at s&e last february. I'd say other
than s&e and all-state, if I don't make Bb, I won't be playing too much alto
anymore.

You guys have definately given me some ideas though.<devious smile>

Hmmmmm, alto gigs....
To you who said that, too bad you live in Houston. I'm from a small town in
WV. The music program is bad and I sometimes struggle. I attended the New
England Music Camp over the summer to learn that I was taught how to play
wrong. Somehow I managed very well before I learned that seeing I did make
all-state. Nobody around here seems to ever want to get together and play.
My only playing buddy is a trumpet player. Nobody else wants to play outside
of band. We usually just improvise and play clarinet or trumpet duets.
Sometimes we go over band music, and sometimes we just talk music.

I'm considering joining the army reserve band in Morgantown, WV this
December when I turn 17. I'm a junior in high school right now and I still
want to go to music camp this summer rather than basic training. I'm
thinking about holding off until my senior year, but I could really use the
clarient they will give me to use. I can get one for Christmas and wait
until my senior year, but the clarinet I am wanting to buy is the same
clarinet the band would provide, the Buffet R13. This is a hard decision I
will be making, either could do me good, and could make a huge impact. Any
suggestions?
