I don't think "hate" is the right word. "Ignore", maybe.

I'm a band guy. There is virtually no band literature that does justice to the
alto clarinet. I bought an alto clarinet at an estate sale and tried to get
enthusiastic about it, but all the parts were oom-pah oom-pah, and I didn't
feel like I was contributing to the band. Plus, the instrument I bought was
badly in need of a tune-up.

On the other hand, six of us performed Grundman's Caprice for Clarinet this
summer. Another fellow in the band played his alto clarinet. It was
absolutely glorious. He got a beautiful, rich sound that blended in nicely
with the rest of the group. It was an eye-opener for me.
