Kimber,
Congratulations for being such a talented young lady! I am
president of a band boosters organization with about 130 students in
band. They are a great band and we do not have a regular "complete"
band class each day. We have four band classes that comprise
sections, then they meet after school on two nights for a composite
practice, marching etc. Obviously this means everyone is a
specialist on one instrument, or like instruments... I would think
picking an instrument and focusing your efforts on that one
certainly would help your perfection of that instrument. I know how
busy students are and...well, nuff said. Good luck on your new
school year!

Kimber

I love playing flute and sax as well. And some years I've played
clarinet in
band, then changed to flute , and now I'm playing sax. But this is
based on
the needs of the band more than my needs. If you are on clarinet and
there
are already flute players in your band, how would they feel about
your
sometimes playing flute? or vice versa? On the other hand, if you
are short
players, I guess your director might like you to fill in on certain
pieces?

As you will be playing in three ensembles, can you play flute in one
band
and clarinet in another? That way you get a good work out on both
instruments.

It's great to double, or triple if you can put the time in. It is
also great
to focus on one instrument as there is so much to learn.

Tanya
