Heard it on bass clarinet, regular Bb clarinet and, come to that, Eb piccolo
clarinet. It sounded fine in all cases. Actually if anything it sounds
*better* on the bass - a very pure, high note, rather like a violin
harmonic. Why are you so intent on limiting the range (pun intended) of
expression you have available on your instrument?

For repertoire, if you check out "New Directions for Clarinet" (Philip
Rehfeldt), the repertoire listing for Josef Horak has a list of authorised
transcriptions, including the Messiaen "Abime des oiseaux" (from the Quatuor
pour la fin du temps).
