Well done Audrey - how many pairs of shoes did you wear out?
My wife and me were in Paris 5 years ago during an unbearably hot summer. We
walked from the Place de la Concorde thru` the Jardin de Tuileries to the
Louvre Museum. We must have shed a couple of pounds during that walk. As we
approached the glass triangle we saw a sign at the entrance which read
"Closed on Tuesday" in ENGLISH! Guess what - - yes, it was Tuesday!!

We had dinner one night in the Moulin Rouge, (the Follies Begere was all
closed and boarded up, looking quite derelect). We saw a wonderful floor
show in spite of the pre-recorded music, which nevertheless was also
enjoyable, being made up of full orchestra, strings, brass, ww. saxes, perc
and rhythm. The sound system was as perfect as any concert hall could be.

Another evening we had our evening meal outside in a pavement cafe. We were
approached by a dirty faced little urchin girl about 10 years old. She was
moving round all the tables with hand outstretched pleading "Monsieur,
monsieur?" My wife took pity and gave her a few francs. Later that same
evening we saw a very smart young woman walking down the street with two
very smart, well dressed looking young girls. One of the girls was the very
same little urchin we were "conned" by, earlier at our meal.
The accordionists` dressed in their striped jumpers and beret, on the Metro,
create the usual romantic and typical vision of Paris, with their minor key
waltzes.

We are off to Rome on Sept 9th, and looking thru` the guide book to prepare,
we are informed that the classical music "scene", concerts etc, nor the
shopping facilities are not rated quite as high as other European capital
cities. Strange! We shall enjoy Classical Rome tho` and the eating.
