Since reeds change as time passes (tired reeds, weather, etc), perhaps
you need to find markers which can be erased or washed off....

But seriously, as part of my education process, I keep a diary of what I
thought of each reed as I conditioned it, how and why I scraped or
trimmed it, what its effective stiffness is, etc. Then I can look back
and attempt to draw conclusions. Of course, I have only 16 conditioned
reeds in storage at any one time. I don't know if I'd want to do that
with 40 reeds.
