As far as attaching a bass neck to an alto, there would be a diameter
difference as well as length, so I think it would have to be made for it.
And it would play out of tune if you lengthened only the neck by so much.

I don't think it would be out of the question for them to have made other
denominations of clarinet that didn't catch on in modern times.

I remember reading liner notes on an album that used recordings of animals
like wolves and whales as inspiration for the music. They observed that the
animals naturally sang in Db. Like it is nature's basic key.
