Hello List Members:

I received this inquiry from Tom Smith, a professor who will be traveling to
Romania and he wants to take jazz fake books with him to give out to the
musicians he meets there. If you're interested in sending him something, go
ahead and contact him!

Thanks,

comments: Dear Music Sudents.com
I am the director of instrumental music at Pfeiffer University in North
Carolina. Next month,I will be accepting a lecture/research Fulbright
Scholarship to form regional jazz ensembles in Romania and teach jazz
history, as well as document the lives of musicians who risked their lives
to perform this music during the Cesceascu regime. I have to believe that
these stories and their offshoots will be nothing short of remarkable. My
principal base will be at the Bucharest Academy of Music.

I would be highly appreciative if you would help get the word out that I am
in desperate need of jazz fake books. I am hoping that you would be
interested in contributing copies of your great fake books to this worthy
cause. We have been very fortunate in soliciting important items with the
exception of this most important item. We are hoping that you can help. Of
course, it goes without saying that you would be included in any publicity
regarding this project.

The reason I am asking is because these people have little or no money.Even
Romanian doctors often receive the equivalent of $100 per month. My
understanding is that there is little in the way of practical music
accessories there. I am highly experienced in community jazz
implementation, and I am confident that I can make this endeavor come to
fruition. I would like to get as much out of my nine months there as
possible. Yet, by the same token, I very much want to have what is created
last. I know there are going to be some remarkable players in Romania and I
look forward to helping to solidify their community jazz scene.

As you are probably aware, this country is one of the final frontiers for
jazz. Romanians with a broad knowledge of jazz literature, would do much to
contribute towards Romanian cultural activities and jazz music as a whole.

I hope to hear from you.
Sincere Best Wishes,
Tom Smith
