Fellow Listers -

I have been amazed at the length of the thread inspired by the question
regarding 2 basic fingerings. While reading these postings this evening
and, at the same time, working on the E Major section of the Fritz Kroepsch
416 Daily Studies, it occurred to me that a record breaking thread probably
lasting 2 years of more could be possible if the list delved into the
sequences of fingerings required in the rapid execution of each of the 416
studies. That is, if each "problem" fingering received the attention that
this F/F# question has. JUST KIDDING.

Those of you who haven't encountered the F. Kroepsch Studies won't
understand this, but those of you who have, I'm sure see the truth as well
as the humor in this. Granted that some of the exercises are fairly easy,
many of them are almost diabolical when it comes to getting up any speed on
them.

A short time back there were several postings by Listers who had recently
returned to playing and were wondering about studies to work on to get back
into playing shape. Based on my own experience when I returned to playing
in 1996 after a 40+year hiatus, I sincerely recommend the F. Kroepsch
Studies to get your technique back, as it certainly helped me.

These studies are the type that very few clarinetists "outgrow". There may
be a few of the very top professionals who don't at least occasionally go
back to them to sharpen up their fingers, but I doubt it. This time through
for me, I'm concentrating on the 183 exercises (Book II) covering 3 flats/3
sharps through 6 flats/6 sharps, major and minor keys. They are really
tough to get up to a reasonable speed - (at least for us amateurs.)

For those of you who are not acquainted with these studies, you will find
them very melodic and pleasant (if not fun) to practice. They are NOT dull
finger exercises.
