The facial expressions issue has been raised with respect to Yo-Yo Ma. One
person on klarinet, having attended a performance by Ma the previous evening,
commented on the way the cellist turned his head to one side, a look of seem-
ing disgust on his face, "as if he couldn't stand the smell of his own cello."
I'm sure Ma is in another world when he gets deeply into his performances, but
I'm also certain that it looks strange indeed to somebody who isn't used to it.
He does play wonderfully though.
