Subj: [kl] Bonade ligature

While I too have tried many ligatures, the Bonade gives the experimenter or
the bored a chance to try to 'improve' the product. Some like to file out
the center of the rail sections, to reduce the rails to feet. Others like
to glue various materials like leather, plastic , rubber or cloth or
solder a section of paperclip to modify the contact of the rails/feet with
the reed. The stories of timbre modification are legion.
One who attends a meeting like KlarFest can find every idea for ligature
design from a single thin wire, to a very wide strap, and way beyond. Each
works beautifully for someone. Some wonderful ligatures seem to die very
dead after some use, and then miraculously become resurrected. Perhaps
someone in the 'group mind' (a term I stole from Hour Twenty-five, a radio
science fiction discussion program on KPFK) can clarify the phenomenon.
