Paula,
I'm guessing that your writing might have been understood as aggressive
and demanding because of your use of more than one question mark (???)
and your exclamation mark (!) at the end of your second sentence. In
English, this is almost like shouting, or perhaps expressing anger or
aggression as if to say loudly "I REALLY mean it and you had BETTER
listen to me!!!"

All a person can do when 'hearing' someone through written words is
interpret what they see on the screen. I'm sure this is where the
misunderstanding comes from.
