Confessions from a non-shaker and my two cents:

I think if you keep your movements to a minimum and
they are in good taste, that would be ok. An example
of good taste is maybe a little lift here and there
where the music calls for it. An example of bad taste
is swaying from side to side like a metronome in a
dance/waltz/polka melody. I've seen it and it looks
really bad in ensemble playing if one person does it
and the rest of the group doesn't. I also suspect
that if you are playing virtually as a solo player,
you should move a little else you will lose you
audience.
