Nope. As I stated before, it records completely uncompressed, full
spectrum wave files. I believe it can do mp3, but it defaults to .wav.
Having recorded on this several times, I am positive about this. Your
confusion is likely because it is primary an mp3 _player_, but the
recording is 44.1khz wave files.
I can't quibble with any of your other information, because that was
all correct. One point though - something like the Sony battery operated
microphone (~$100) won't work with the Nomad because it isn't pre-amped
(I found that one out the hard way); you need real, professional
microphones with real amplification, or the noise level negates the
purpose of recording.
