Chris,

Just to echo Bill H.'s comments - leave it to the
repairman/technician to remove it properly. A tip on
the Buffet swab if it is still usable after the fix:

Keep it to clean out the tenon sockets. Don't use
your new swab (a silk swab is a good recommendation or
you might try BG swabs). The reason you don't want to
clean out the tenon joints with your swab is it just
makes the swab grungy and dirty. The next time you
pull through the horn, it will leave gunk over a
period of time that can fill into unwanted areas like
the Bb register tube or the upper joint thumbhole.
