I spent quite a bit of time playing and comparing a Rossi clarinet
with each of the BIG 4 at the recent International Clarinet and Sax
Connection in Boston. I also heard Luis Rossi and Jonathan Cohler
play on their Rossis and spoke with Cohler about his years of
experience playing Rossis. Based on what was clear superiority, I
have ordered a Rossi instrument. It will have Luis Rossi's extra
B-flat hole mechanism for clarifying the throat B-flat, a more
comfortable placement of the left-hand ring finger tone hole, and a
left-hand A-flat/E-flat key placed for me by Mr. Rossi based on a
sketch of my left hand that I FAXed to him in Chile. He also asked me
what mouthpiece I use and will adjust the instrument so that it is in
precise tune with the Vandoren B4013 I use. The cost will be $3700,
plus freight. I expect to be quite delighted with this instrument.
