Hi Kimber

In all the blather about blather, I see nobody tried to answer your
question, so here's two cents from me. Yes, I think ANY attitude or
emotion affects your playing. And this is not necessarily a bad thing;
even hate, if the subject of the music is hateful, such as the
beginnings of the Nazi tyranny in the musical 'Cabaret'. Music should be
able to express all emotions, however, not just the ones you are
personally feeling at the time. And at the same time you do need a
slight detachment in order to remain in control of the instrument, and
to project the emotion onto the audience rather than be carried away by
it, because then one's performance goes pear-shaped.

On the blather, I'd simply echo what Rien said. And whatever you do,
don't lose your enthusiasm, ever! It's more important than "maturity"
(speaking as one almost 50 years older than you!).

>>Thanks for pointing that out! ;) I had read it the other way once;
apparently it was a typo. Also, are there any clarinetists on the list
who could answer this: Does being facetious effect you playing at all? I
am sarcastic a lot, which is why I use the word so much. But I was
wondering if it could have any effect on the way you play, likegrief and
love and hate do? Kimber the Wrestler
