I remember my father's HARD RUBBER (not soft vinyl) recordings of Mario
Lanza.

I had forgotten about that !! Thanks for the nostalgia fix, Kelly!

One day my father brought home a brand new 78 that was 'shatterproof',
and I was so-o-o relieved because, as a kid, I trembled in fear of
breaking another record. In fact, at one point, my parents forbade me
from playing the records myself because I broke them sometimes.

....and yes, we had the Mario Lanza also.

About 10 years ago, I gathered together all my 78's and 33's (I never
bought any 45's because I felt cheated by how little music they held,
and I never owned a 5-track, and just this weekend I gave all my
cassettes to my daughter) and I tried to sell the whole pile. Dealers
and collectors wanted to cherry-pick, and finally I donated them to the
library at the local music conservatory instead. The librarian giggled
at some of the labels, especially the Lawrence Welk and also a
Scheherezade cover with an especially 'notable' belly dancer on it, but
she offered to name a library wing in my honor when she came across
Peter and The Wolf told for children with bassoons and trumpets and all
the rest of it.

Cheers, and thanks for the memory,
Bill
