Subj: [kl] Basset Horn fingering systems
Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 10:46:35 -0400

Hello all,

I was hoping you guys could maybe advise on the different fingering systems
out there for basset horns.

>From what I see, the "big 3" have a 21-key system - I presume the extra 4
keys are a right hand low Eb (lower level of RH keys) and D (upper level)
and a left hand low D and alternate Ab/Eb key, with low C and C# being
controlled by the thumb (I guess the C would be the higher thumb key).

I presume that bass and basset clarinets also follow the same fingering
system (though I think bassets have only a low Eb key for RH, no?) - the
manufacturers must have standardised these things by now...

Am I right or are there differences?

Cheers,

-- Joe
