Maybe this thread has gotten too stale and boring, but I've been away from
the computer for a while and just now got back...

If anyone is still interested in music that makes me wince after all this
time, I'd have to say the Pachelbel Canon in D would top my list right now.
One of my quintets has played this at so many weddings over the past 5
years, I have lost count. I enjoy hearing it played well upon occasion, but
I do not much enjoy playing it myself these days.

Our bassoonist endeavored to find interesting transcriptions of it so we
would not get too bored, and came up with an absolutely dreadful one. I
cannot remember the arranger, but the melodic line is chopped up among the
voices, so that you have two or three notes from the flute, the next few
from the clarinet, the next few from the bassoon, etc. We laughed too much
to get through even one complete reading of it!

And WHAT is the new Dell Computers tv commercial doing to this piece?!
Augh! Now that truly makes me wince.
