I don't have any details (i. e., music) available, but know that the A
clarinet (as well as the Bb and C) is used in some of the WW Quintets of
Anton Reicha (1770 - 1836).

Also, the sonata, Op. 2, by Archduke Rudolph of Austria, uses the A
clarinet. His dates are 1788 - 1831. According to notes with Ricardo
Morales' recording, it was published in 1822 but written some ten years
earlier. He also uses clarinet in his septet in e minor. I would suspect
this uses A clarinet (in 2 flats) rather than Bb (in 3 sharps).
