Buffet intends it for general use after the clarinet is unpacked. When I
visited the Buffet booth at the Pennsylvania Music Educators' Association
conference last April, Francois Klock was there and very kindly gave me a
sample - it replaced the rubber hair band he saw that I'd been using for the
same purpose. It is indeed meant to keep a sharp impression in the pad.
