<<The purpose of doctoral dissertations, theses, and research papers is to
see
what you can do in the area of research.>>

Thank you.

<<What interests you?>>

English Clarinet Literature.
Charles Villiers Stanford
Gerald Finzi
Malcom Arnold
blank spots in the history [in researched and documented history relating to
these individuals and English Clarinet literature in general]

<<Have you reviewed available theses and/or dissertations to see what has
already been
rwritten as a process of elimination?>>

I have exhausted keyword searches through DAI, WorldCat, RILM, FirstSearch,
etc. and have found a single dissertation on the clarinet works of Stanford
and some related side information that are not as direct a hit. My hope in
asking here was to get a hit from people such as Tony Pay and notable
pedagogues who might have already been familiar with what is available (or
unavailable) in these areas and could shorten or narrow my search.

I certainly appreciate your intentions, but please, from this point on,
assume that I understand why I am in the latter half of my doctoral degree
and the purpose of the dissertation as a tool. My interests are clear to me
and I am interested now in "What is needed?" "What do YOU want researched
relating to my expressed interests?" "Where are there holes in current
scholarship relating to these areas?" It is the suggestions relating to
these questions and from other angles that I am interested in.

>From that light, does anything come to mind from the above mentioned topics
that you would like to see researched and reported on? I certainly
appreciate your taking to the time to respond and consider the questions.
:-)

My goal is to research something that Tony and the likes might be interested
in reading. Since, in the immediate future following my degree, I will be
recognized for the work I did, I would like the work to be something that
people are interested in.

Thanks again,

Robert
