Those are what I use, too, but they don't always work for me. This may sound
bizarre, but an excellent rust loosener is . . . full strength Coca Cola! I
use Diet Coke. I think Coke (which is acid) will probably cause corrosion
later, though, if not rinsed away thoroughly.

Today when I placed a parts order with Ferree's, I was tempted by "Corrosion
Cracker" Penetrating Oil, on p. 19 of the current (2001) catalog. The ad
copy makes the stuff sound like the greatest thing since indoor plumbing: "A
recent scientific discovery reduces surface tension so that this amazing
solvent creeps into openings as small as ONE MILLIONTH OF AN INCH." (Caps in
the original!) It's $7 per pint if you already have a needle oiler (or
there's a small quantity sold with an oiler, but bought that way, it costs a
lot more per ounce).

Decided not to buy any this time, since I think I have a lifetime supply of
WD-40. Every time my husband and I go into Home Depot, it seems one of us
says, "How are we doing on WD-40?" and the other one says, "I use so much of
it--we're probably low." So we buy another can to add to our very impressive
collection.... ;-)

I've had good results with other Ferree's products, but never heard anything
about "Corrosion Cracker." Has anybody here ever used it?
