The tune loses all those qualities once you are required to sit and listen
to 13 different versions of it in a single class period (including the one
mentioned along side a Ray Charles disco-fied version). Just once, I'd
like to have a guest soprano with the orchestra NOT choose it (or O mio
babbino caro from Gianni Schicci) just for the sake of doings SOMETHING
different.

(Hell, I would pay good money for their programs to not consist of opera
arias altogether, and perhaps instead do some of the gorgeous song cycles
of Strauss that are rarely performed...when's the last time you got to
hear the Kindertotenlieder or the Last Four Songs performed live? Me?
Never! Then again, I'm only 24, so i've got some time lieft....)
