The reason I dislike Pomp & Circumstance is because of having to march
it, not play it, for three 8-hr days in a row.

Our high school principal was absolutely insistent that the entire
graduating class of 200 or so students would march single file down a
steep hill into the center of a football stadium, and all of us would be
in step with each other for the entire procession. You just can't do
this with that many kids --- a few girls in heels stumbled on their way
down the hill each time, a certain number of class cut-ups didn't give a
@-----.

So we spent three full 8 hrs days marching down the hill, climbing back
up, listening to a lecture over the loud speaker about how *IMPORTANT*!
this moment in our lives was, marching back down, climbing back up,
listening to the lecture, matching back down....

At the end of the 3rd day, the principal declared our 'rehearsal' a
success, but all of us knew that he had finally run out of steam..... as
we had 2 days earlier. Or perhaps some parents had gotten together and
put an end to it, we never knew.

Probably Pomp & Circumstance is good music when played by a full
professional orchestra; but to this day, I cannot tolerate it.

Not so cheerily, just because this thread made me think of it again,
Bill
