The common saxes descend in an alternating pattern:

Bb soprano
Eb alto
Bb tenor
Eb baritone
Bb bass

Bass sax is thus comparable in pitch to a contrabass clarinet.

Most parts tend to be tuba-like, just like contrabass clarinet parts.
