Could somebody please explain this term [blown out' to me?

Okay, but please understand that I was using it in a _totally facetious_
way. I am not suggesting for a single second that "blown out" has
anything to do with the tuning question that began this thread.

=========================

Some people claim that a clarinet loses its tone after a number of years
simply because it has been blown on for too long.

"Blown out" is different from simply needing repairs such as keywork,
pads, corks, cleaning, oiling, etc. Allegedly "blown out" has to do
with some unidentifiable factor such as: change in the molecular
structure of the wood, or dimensional change from repeated swabbing
(which is too small to be measured), or some other unmeasurable
parameter.

Since the cause allegedly can't be identified or measured, it can't be
proved or disproved.

Therefore a 'believer' can argue the subject forever..... which has
happened several times on the Klarinet list, and 99.99% of us (myself
included) don't want to hear the discussion again.

Cheers,
Bill
