Try applying Stravinsky's definition of music: "Music is sound ordered
in time."

(imo, of course) This would mean that the hammering of a pile driver or
air hammer is music. Perhaps "ordered in time" is a necessary aspect
of music, but there must be more to a complete definition.

However my reason for raising the issue was *not* to debate a proper
definition of music. I'm sure that the debate has been held on
Klarinet several times before.

Rather, my purpose was to hint (once again) at the error of isolating
music and language from each other in totality. They aren't they same,
but they *do* share (imo) processes and mechanisms in common.

Even something as basic as "harmonic resolution" can be thought of (I'm
borrowing from Minsky again, his article is truly worth reading) as the
same mechanism that demands creation and subsequent resolution of
conflict in a story plot.

Cheers,
Bill
