Just look at any pit score for a musical. We woodwind players are EXPECTED
to double, whereas brass players seldom are even asked. To them, doubling
means you can play with both straight AND cup mute! As far as I am
concerned, a trumpeter doubling on flugelhorn is straying about as far as
us switching from Bb to A clarinet, without even the complication of the
key change! Obviously, more is expected of those of us with the
demonstrated higher intelligence to choose woodwinds in the first place!
