Robert, you should try immobilizing your painful hands at night, using a
brace that attaches with velcro. Often, when we sleep, we curl our hands,
bending them at the wrist and putting a strain on the carpal tunnel. The
brace makes this impossible, while still permitting sleep. It won't cure
CTS, but this may extend the time you have available before pain makes you
put down the horn. When you do talk to someone about surgery (which I have
had on both hands), I encourage you to explore micro-surgery. It took me
almost fourth months to recover from regular CTS surgery, but less than
three weeks to full recovery from micro-surgery. Of course, only a surgeon
can advise you about what best suits your particular needs, but at least
inquire about this option. Good luck.
