You actually have a bass sax? What's it like to play? How did you acquire
it? What brand? I would think that you would get about 4 beats = 1/4=120
per breath on one of these!

As an amateur, I don't qualify as a doubler in the usual sense, but I annoy
Shadow Cat with the following:

keyboards
(Mostly piano, but my current instrument is an electronic simulacrum that I
often set up as a pretty good harpsichord or as a poor excuse for an organ.

My husband says I play all these winds because I'm trying to buy an organ
one
pipe at a time.)

clarinets: Eb sopranino, Bb soprano, soprano in A and Eb alto
Wanted: Bass and contrabass, as soon as I can find the money and the right
instruments.

saxophones: Bb soprano, Eb alto, C Melody, Bb tenor, and my favorite, Bb
bass

recorders: F sopranino, C soprano, F alto, C tenor

bodhran drum
There would be other drums, if I didn't suspect they'd be grounds for
divorce.
;-)

beginner on orchestral flute, cornet and trumpet
For fear of teaching myself bad habits, decided to put those aside unless /
until I can gin up the nerve and the time to take lessons.

miscellaneous folk winds
These include a pair of suo nas and about two dozen assorted flutes,
whistles, etc., none of which I can play worth a sneeze.

Kevin, I'll bet you get a lot of answers on this thread. Just tallying up
in
my head what instruments other people here have talked about, I think the
*majority* of us are doublers.

I'm making my stupid pet human type this. She wrote,
>(Dreadfully envious of Jim O'Briant's serpent!)>

Don't you DARE bring one of those vile monstrosities home! I have to run
for
the basement when you play that Godard person's serpent CD. If a real
serpent breaks into my house, then next time you leave, I *will* evoke an
Elemental and clear this whole place out, screech-sticks and all!

She brought home something else from the D. C. Big Flea on Saturday. It's
in
a malodorous big black case. I know that stink. It's only a saxophone, she

claims, because she knows I don't object to saxophones as much as I object
to
*some of the others.* Hah! It's too small to be one of the acceptable
saxophones. It's one of those squealing false saxophones that's really a
larval form of v*cu*m cl*an*r. Something's alive in there, something nasty,

and it's awake, and it's trying to get out. I can feel it squirming and
heaving when I sit on the case. If she opens it, I'll rip its smelly lining

out and see what *else* is in there. Yesterday evening, I lay on top of the

coffin for six hours and hissed a binding spell on the monster inside, with
a
ward on the locks that's made them difficult to open, but *she* always finds

a way--the cl*r*n*ts tell her how, I'm sure of it. They're probably getting

ready to squeal a counter-spell the next time she practices this wicked form

of magic at their instigation.

It sounds as though many of you have serious infestations of screech-sticks
and their mutant cousins. You should give them to cats and we will be happy

to dispose of them for you, free of charge.

Sssssssst!
Shadow Cat
